Richard joined WRAP in 2004, leading the team that created and delivered the innovative ‘Courtauld Commitment’ – the first agreement of its kind between WRAP and UK supermarket retailers committed to an ambitious and collaborative approach to packaging and food waste reduction. Between 2007 and 2012 this voluntary agreement, together with WRAP’s internationally-renowned Love Food Hate Waste campaign, helped reduce packaging and food waste by more than 3 million tonnes, reducing carbon emissions by over 8 million tonnes. He also led WRAP’s public: private/public partnerships in hospitality and food service, and home improvement. He negotiated the latest voluntary agreement, Courtauld 2025 and this team have helped reduce UK food waste by 27%. This team have also worked with retailers and manufacturers to double the amount of food redistributed to those in need in the UK. Now the equivalent of 166 million meals is being redistributed from this source every year.

 

As Director of WRAP GLOBAL, Richard leads on developing and delivering WRAP’s international and new product development strategies. This includes WRAP’s new work on helping people eat more healthily and sustainably and on seeking new partnerships to achieve impact internationally e.g in South Africa, Mexico, Malaysia and Indonesia. WRAP GLOBAL focuses on delivering the relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals, 12.3 on halving food waste reduction and 12.5 preventing waste and increasing recycling
